This invitation is for a Master’s degree research study conducted by James Chan at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU), under the supervision of Dr Miki Leung.
Your child will complete three short online activities: a number-memory activity, a number-spotting attention activity, and column-form arithmetic. The child activities take approximately 38 minutes in total. The parent background questionnaire takes approximately 5 minutes separately.
Please prepare:
· A notebook or desktop computer is preferred. A tablet such as an iPad may be used with a physical keyboard. A smartphone should not be used.
· A stable internet connection and a fully charged device or connected power supply.
· A comfortable chair, suitable desk height and a screen that the child can see clearly.
· A quiet, well-lit place with television, conversations, notifications and unrelated internet activity minimised.
· Enough uninterrupted time for the child activities. Please let the child use the bathroom and have water before beginning.
· Please avoid eating or snacking during the timed activities unless this is needed for health or comfort.
During the activities:
· The child should work independently and try their best.
· Do not use a calculator, calculation app, written working prepared in advance, answer key or another person's help.
· A parent may assist only with login, access or a genuine technical problem. Please do not explain a question, suggest an answer or coach the child.
· Do not refresh the page, open the activity in several tabs or start a second attempt unless the researcher asks you to do so.
· If the child becomes distressed, very tired or does not wish to continue, the child may stop without penalty. Contact the researcher about what happened.
· This is research, not a school examination or diagnostic service. Participation and performance will not affect school grades or records.
· No individual score, diagnosis or performance report will be provided for this 2026 research study. Findings will be reported only at group level.
